Austin's airport busy with holiday travelers

The day after Christmas is typically extra busy on the road and at the airport, and that was true at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, too.

Amid that hustle and bustle at ABIA on the day after Christmas, Tahlia Morgan and her husband were flying to North Carolina to see the in-laws with some extra challenges, ages 3, 21 months and 3 weeks old. "Three, 3 and under," laughed Morgan, as her newborn son Jett slept on her chest. "Today, because we were supposed to go before Christmas but this one was born late so we couldn't travel."

According to Airlines 4 America, 2.78 million Americans are expected to fly somewhere on December 26. Some of them flew by accident, like Joyce Gibson and her chihuahua, Martini, who were on their way to New York. "I really didn't think about it because if I had, I wouldn't be doing it today, that's for sure," Gibson said.

Others, like Morgan and her family, were traveling on purpose and were well-prepared. "There's lot of bottles and milk and food and iPads," she said, hoping for one thing. "Just naps on the airplane."
ABIA says the economy lot at the airport is full, but that the first and second floors of the new Blue Garage have opened, and will cost you $15 a day.
