Best and worst from Syracuse football's win over WVU in Camping World Bowl
Orlando, Fla. -- The No. 20
Syracuse football team beat No. 16 West Virginia 34-18 on Friday in the
Camping World Bowl. The Orange finished the season with a 10-3 record.

Syracuse
quarterback Eric Dungey turned in one final feat of elite plamaking in
his swan song. With about 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, he
flipped backward in the face of pressure before flailing a pass toward
Moe Neal. The running back checked back behind the line of scrimmage,
caught the pass, then sifted his way through the WVU defense. Forty-four
yards later, he was caught at the WVU 4-yard line.

PLAY OF THE GAME
PLAYER OF THE GAME
There
are cases to be made here for a host of players including Dungey and
Abdul Adams. I cast my vote for senior linebacker Ryan Guthrie, and
here's why: the primary communicator for Syracuse's defense faced two
quarterbacks and a Wildcat formation. He was working with a player
making his first career start in sophomore defensive end Kingsley
Jonathan and a d-line that was missing two of its top contributors.
West Virginia got in the end zone only once -- a score that was set up by an interception deep in SU territory. And when the Mountaineers needed to score to keep the game close, Guthrie stood up Trevon Wesco on a 4th-and-goal play from the SU 6-yard line with 6:12 left in regulation.
In a matchup touted for offense, Guthrie's execution in leading the Orange defense was perhaps the single most important factor.

BEST PASS
It
wasn't the prettiest game for Dungey, but on the first play of the
fourth quarter he delivered an accurate back-shoulder ball to transfer
wideout Trishton Jackson. The 14-yard scoring strike put the Orange
ahead 24-18 six seconds into the final frame. It was the first career
catch for Jackson, a transfer from Michigan State who recently became
eligible.
BEST RUN
Syracuse
junior running back Abdul Adams made his debut on a botched throwback
kickoff return. Then he stayed on the field and capped off a 10-play,
91-yard drive. On 3rd and goal from the 4, Adams took an inside handoff
and powered downhill. He landed on top of a defender at the 1-yard line
before making a second effort and reaching the ball over the goal line.
The score made it 7-3 Orange with 3:01 left in the first quarter.
